How Do You Perform Tooth Extractions?
We perform tooth extractions in-office with local anesthesia for your comfort. Based on your needs, we can also provide IV sedation or other options to keep you relaxed throughout your treatment. For a simple extraction, the tooth will be loosened using a specialized tool called an "elevator" before removal. A surgical extraction (usually done for wisdom teeth) involves making incisions in the gums to access the tooth. In some cases, the tooth may need to be broken into smaller pieces for removal. After the tooth is extracted, sutures will be used to close the gum incision. If you are planning on future dental implants, we can also use this opportunity to insert a bone graft for additional jaw support (a procedure called "socket preservation").
The recovery process after your tooth extraction will depend on the complexity of your surgery. Simple tooth extractions will start healing within a few days, while surgical extractions could take weeks or months. After tooth extraction, it's important to stick to soft foods, such as yogurt, smoothies, or soup, while the area heals. Great experience.. First was the consultation and the whole staff was excellent, professional and kind to me. From having the x-rays,pre- examination and financial business it went very smoothly. Went back 5 days later for the procedure and was relaxed and it went without issues. I appreciate that Dr.Orr opted to wait a few weeks to do other extractions out of an abundance of caution because of my heart condition. Five plus stars for this organization!! Highly recommend!
