What Is Anesthesia?
Some of the more complex procedures we perform at Oral Surgery Associates Gadsden may require you to receive anesthesia. We offer several options for dental anesthesia at our Gadsden and Albertville, AL offices, from local anesthetic (for simple surgery) to general anesthesia (for extensive procedures). We're also pleased to offer nitrous oxide sedation (also known as "laughing gas") to help patients remain relaxed but conscious. If you are interested in learning more about the different options we offer for dental anesthesia, we invite you to contact Oral Surgery Associates Gadsden to schedule your appointment with Dr. Cecil Dorsett or Dr. Frank E. Orr. We are committed to elevating your experience.
What Can I Expect with Dental Anesthesia?
Before scheduling any procedure that involves anesthesia, we'll first sit down with you to discuss your medical history and determine which approach is best for you. For simple procedures, such as tooth extractions, we'll inject a small amount of local anesthetic into the treatment area to numb your teeth and gums. For more complicated procedures (like wisdom tooth removal or jaw surgery), we may recommend nitrous oxide, dental IV sedation, or general anesthesia. Throughout your procedure, our team will monitor your vitals and adjust your sedation level as needed to keep you calm and comfortable.
What Are the Benefits of Dental Anesthesia?
Whether you are undergoing extensive oral surgery or are simply anxious about your visit, dental anesthesia at Oral Surgery Associates Gadsden makes it possible to get the care you need without unnecessary stress or discomfort. Some of the benefits of our approach include:
- Numbs the treatment area to prevent pain during procedures
- Ensures patient comfort during otherwise painful treatments
- Allows for complex or lengthy procedures to be performed in a single session
- Reduces patient anxiety by preventing discomfort and pain
- Helps keep patients still during treatment, ensuring safety and precision
- Enables dental work on sensitive areas, like gums or jaw, without discomfort
- Increases safety for patients with medical conditions who may need a more controlled environment during treatment
